Welcome! I’m Zelia Boyd. I am a woman wearing many hats! I am a Health Coach, a Registered Nurse, a wife to Ricky and mother of three year old triplets - Zander, Xavier and Harper.
My journey to becoming a health coach began in 2015 when my life was flipped completely upside down as one after the other, my precious babies were diagnosed with an autoimmune cancer (Langerhan’s Cell Histiocytosis). Spending endless hours in hospital or Ronald McDonald House as we were going through investigations and getting all three children diagnosed, I was desperate to find the answers to curing my children’s disease. Their condition is very rare and supposedly not genetic so I was even more curious to find answers! They are currently the rarest known case in the world. We were very grateful to find that our children’s cancer was single system on their skin which meant that only two required a course of oral chemotherapy, with the third child not being as badly affected.
Other than convential mainstream medicinal options, throughout all the information I found, there was always one theme that kept reoccurring when looking at various treatment options. Something that isn’t often mentioned by doctors or questioned... Diet.
Thankfully after a long two years of questions and research, I have been successful in keeping my children’s health condition well managed with dietary and lifestyle changes.
Throughout this process, I was also diagnosed with early stages of rheumatoid arthritis (possibly Lupus), and found as we improved our dietary choices, my own health was drastically improved. My polycystic ovarian syndrome was improving. I wasn’t feeling bloated, didn’t have brain fog, my endometriosis wasn’t as painful, my eczema disappeared. The results were amazing and even my husband couldn’t believe how great he felt.
Going back to work as the kids became stable, I found it difficult to be treating conditions with various medications meanwhile the doctors didn’t acknowledge that dietary/lifestyle factors alone could infact be a remedy to their chronic and acute ailments. This started to wear me down, as I watched people of all ages come and go, filling another prescription, none the wiser.
As my nursing career has progressed, I have found that I no longer want the ambulance to be parked at the bottom of the cliff and to provide a bandaid treatment to patients. Instead, I want to empower others to promote their health and reduce the likelihood of disease - just like I have been able to do within my own family. I use a natural approach in my home, with diet being our biggest influence in good health.
This is when I decided I would retrain in nutrition - more specifically holistic integrated nutrition. I just don’t agree with the governmental guidelines for a healthy dietary habits (such as the food pyramid which is actually contributing to disease) so I knew I had to look elsewhere. That lead me to find The Institute of Integrative Nutrition through the USA. My passion is now overflowing! I feel empowered and motivated to change the world - one household at a time!
